If a girl talks to her mom about a guy she likes, can it change her mind?

i know that girls tell their moms or best friends everything about the guy they like, be it good or bad things that have occured between guy and girl.........BUT in most cases, is it possible that the mother advises the girl to start to drift away from the guy? do mothers often do that with the girl??? because since her mom is in town, weve texted once and she cancelled the meeting we had that was arranged since a week, before her mother came.....the fact her mom is here is a valid excuse and I would do the same but I just have this sneaky feeling her mom may have made her go away from me or am i overthinking? i never met her mom!
